Drew Davies
by Adrian Hanft,
Drew Davies, founder and design director of Oxide Design Co. is a 1995 Coe College graduate with a major in painting and graphic design, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi. This intellectual, liberal arts background gives a well-rounded sensibility and grounding to his passionate and progressive sense of design. He receives much of his inspiration from all types of ephemera — both old and modern — and as such, surrounds himself with rows of shelves overflowing with kitsch and curios collected throughout the years. Drew also has thorough experience with the business operations and account management practices of three different design firms. This knowledge allows him to craft his design as a careful balance between ingenious thinking and the client’s needs and goals.
The quality of Drew’s work has been recognized by numerous national and international design competitions, including the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the CLIO Awards, Graphis Design, Graphis Logo and Communication Arts.
Drew has had ten years of experience building creative design solutions for clients such as The Nature Conservancy, Unisource, University of Iowa, ConAgra Foods, Coe College, Council Bluffs Convention & Visitors Bureau, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and John Deere Construction Equipment.
Drew is the president of the Nebraska Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, a national organization with over 16,000 members. AIGA is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice and culture of designing.
Drew recently returned from a trip to Menlo Park, California, where he judged the 2004 Communication Arts Design Annual, an honor bestowed on only nine national designers each year. He is the only Nebraskan who has ever been selected as a judge in the 45 years of the competition. Communication Arts, a professional journal for designers, art directors and everyone involved in visual communications, is the most exclusive major design competition in the world.
