Paul Berkbigler
by Adrian Hanft,
Paul Berkbigler studied illustration & graphic design at the Concordia University - Nebraska Art Department in Seward, Nebraska, and gained his Master’s degree in interactive and graphic design from Tyler School of Art, a school of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After completing his undergraduate studies at Concordia, he was employed for three years at Studio X, a small private design and illustration practice in St. Louis, Missouri. Working as a direct assistant to one of the principals / founders of Studio X afforded him the opportunity to work on an extremely wide variety of commercial projects for clients including Purina, Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Seaworld, Square D, JBL, the Eugene Field House & Museum, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and many others. Feeling a bit restless and anxious to make a career transition into design & illustration education, he pursued the two-year Master’s design studies at Tyler, graduating in May of 2004, and entering part-time teaching at St. Louis Community College - Forest Park as well as semi-unofficially opening the doors of P. Berkbigler Design & Illustration as a “full-time” freelancer. Paul currently resides just outside of St. Louis, Missouri and will be seeking full-time employment as a professor within the year, continuing to practice design & illustration independently alongside his work as an educator. Paul’s interests include, but are rarely limited to, writing, philosophy & theory, literature, critique, theater, performance, music, composition and vocal performance, painting, printmaking, intermedia works, design, illustration, and general participation in the cultural and intellectual life of whatever area he’s found in.
