My Bala Fun

As I was driving down a small highway in Kansas, I noticed this beautiful old sign. I took a photo for our BA project and set out to find more in this mystical land of Bala. I drove down a small road hoping for more unique BA photos. I found six more, but more importantly I found a small adventure. Not an adventure with people or events, but a visual feast none the less. I have included a photo journal of my adventure.

Bala is a small town, if I can call it that, with only a few houses, most of which are abandoned. The only living thing that acknowledged me was a huge dog that tried to run me out of town. I thought I had seen the entire village when I noticed a small service road. It looked like a road to nothing but cornfields, but I decided to drive on at my own risk. When I reached a fork in the path, I encountered this sign.

How strange, a corn field to the right and a small bridge too my left. After I crossed the bridge, I realized if I went any further I would be on military property, so I turned around. I was still curious to find Bala Park so I took the road by the cornfield. As I rounded the cornfield I saw the grand entrance.

The park was complete with a swimming pool slide (sans a swimming pool) and various rusted playground equipment. The sign to the side of the entrance reads: “NOTICE! Because of misuse and vandalism, this park is restricted for use. Please contact …” Below are what I would guess is the “vandalism” and a sign of the “misuse”.

I had a visual adventure in the small village of Bala, a place that time and maintenance have both forgotten.
