AIGA Nebraska will welcome Kit Hinrichs of Pentagram to Omaha this Friday night. The details:

Friday, February 4 Doors open at 7:00 pm / Presentation at 7:30 pm Special Members Only Meet & Greet at 6:00 pm

David Radler Studio - 2553 Leavenworth in Omaha With Special Guest Kit Hinrichs

Free for AIGA Members $10 for non-members

For those of you who don’t know who Kit is, all you really need to know is he was awarded the AIGA Medal in 2004, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a designer. Previous recipients read like a who’s who list of our profession. In other words, he’s a huge star, and if you live around Omaha or are looking for something to do Friday night, you should make an effort to get out, see his work, and perhaps say Hi to him.

AIGA Members are invited to come an hour earlier, at 6pm, for a private one-on-one with Kit before the main event.

Now, in case you’re really curious, here’s his bio.

Kit Hinrichs studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and worked in several New York design offices before forming independent businesses. In 1976 Hinrichs & Associates moved to San Francisco and formed a national partnership called Jonson Pedersen Hinrichs and Shakery. In 1986 the San Francisco office merged with Pentagram.

Kit’s accumulated design experience incorporates a wide range of projects. At Pentagram he leads a graphic design team with expertise in corporate communications and promotion, packaging, editorial and exhibition design.

He has been an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in New York and at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He has been a lecturer at the Stanford Design Conference and numerous other design associations and universities across the country.

Kit’s work has been honored and published widely, and several of his pieces can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. He is co-author of four books: Vegetables, Stars & Stripes, Long May She Wave and Typewise. He is an executive board member of both the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and the Director Art Center and, a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).

In 2004 he was awarded the profession’s highest honor, the AIGA Medal, in recognition of his distinguished achievements and contributions to the field.

Why has no-one posted to this? I’M going. Tom’s going. Bennet and the missus is going. Donovan’s going. David Kadavy and Drew Davies ought to be going.

And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to be look’ SHARP.

The little “missus” here. Right on Nate. I’ll be bringing the little mister. This event should be memorable. We’ll be there with bells on. Metaphorically.

It’s my event! I bossed lots of people around for months to get the event off, and now I get to show up early and get drunk! After Kit gets a ride in The Colorado, of course. I’m thinking that’s the highlight of his trip to nebraska, right there.

Hey, speaking of Drew Davies, you all know he’s speaking at his own event in Des Moines Saturday right? BE A Design Group’s own, Drew Davies!

The Drew Davies Extravaganza. 1:45 pm in Des Moines, February 5th. I think its free. I’m going to make the two hour drive from Omaha just to go and ask lots of really embarrassing questions during Q&A. Just telling you now so you’re not shocked when I get thrown out. You bet.

That is awesome. Maybe Drew can write about his experience for us. Or, Tom can record the audio and transcribe it for us. You bet.
