Simply Apple

I would assume that most designers are much like me, and drooling over the two newest pieces of hardware from Apple. I would love to get the new iPod Shuffle and the tupperware size Mac mini. I have a regular iPod and G4 that work just fine, so I guess I will have to live vicariously through someone else.
Another encouraging sign from apple is their new packaging for iLife and iWork. Is Apple starting to abandon their hyper-realistic 3-D icons for a more illustrative approach? Personally, I think it is time that Apple went back to a more symbolic approach to it’s packaging and icons. I commend Apple for not letting their look become predictable.

Damn straight. Love the new packaging. Wish I did it. But seriously, Bennet. My G4 was the FIRST model of G4. In fact, we’ll call it the “lowercase g4.” 450 Mhz. 20 Gig (that was huge back then. now Tom’s ipod is bigger).
Now, there’s a paperweight that’s 3 times faster and twice as big as my archaic tower. And that’s the $500 model. For an extra hundie it gets even better. As long as it’s not crappy like the old CUBES, I’m in.

I love how whimsical the packaging is! Besides the Mini, iLife and iWork were the most exciting things to come out of yesterday’s announcements for me.

I also love the new packaging, as well as the iconography they’re using for representing the products on the site:

Unfortunately, I think the product icons are going to still fall into that 3-D illustrative style, if these images are any representation:

Chris,
I guess Apple is too far along with the look of their icons to abandon the 3-D look now. Too bad.
Side note: Speak Up is having a fun little discussion on the new Apple products.

Has any of you guys looked closely at these boxes, especially the one for “iLife” and found a slight resemblance to one of those pricier, almost minimalist boxes of natural or organic cereal that you can find at upscale stores? I’m not judging this as good nor bad necessarily, but I couldn’t help noticing the resemblance as soon as Steve Jobs showed it for the first time at the keynote.
