Design on the Farm
A regular commenter on our site stated that he appreciated our “non-NY-centric point of view”. As much as we all love New York it is good to get as many different view points as possible. I decided to embrace the midwest and share this little photo essay.
These photos are from a recent visit to my wife’s family farm. It is amazing the beautiful things you can find if you only look. This also supports the idea that you can find inspiration no matter where you are.
The patterns in nature are truly amazing. I also found it interesting how well this moth blended in with the man made cement background.
The colorful textures on the old buildings and vehicles were endless.
You can even find interesting typography on the farm.

Great photos Bennett. The “do you have to be in a big city to do good design” debate could be a great post in itself, and would promote some very lively discussion. I personally think the environment outside of a “hotbed” community has tremendous potential to yield some outstandingly original work. It just takes the right individual(s).

Hwy 30 leading just east out of Kearney (I’m sure you’ve driven it many times) has a cluster of large fertilizer tanks & grain silos with some great typography (Liquid-Pro, Budda, etc¢úÔΩ∂).
The old parked train cars along this road have some interesting examples too墜ｶ
Design & typography really IS everywhere!!
