Be A Design Cast 6 : Ric Grefe
by Nate Voss, (7 comments)

The Be A Design Cast keeps getting better! (7mb) This week we welcome Ric Grefé, the executive director of AIGA (the professional association for design) to the Design Cast for our very special first interview. Ric talks about the future of AIGA and of our profession, as well as the re-positioning of AIGA in it. Our thanks go out to AIGA Nebraska and president Drew Davies (a Be A Design Group author, in case you were wondering how we swindled this) for allowing us a few moments of Ric’s time. Thanks for listening!
NEXT WEEK! The Be A Design Cast continues its march to dominance as we welcome Joe Duffy to the show!

Hey did you guys know that Duffy and Partners designs Fresca? You better hope he doesn’t listen to BE A design cast.

You know what, Megan, honestly I don’t remember knocking on the design at all — help me out fellas, but in fact I think we sang its praises, right? We just said that no matter what you do to make the packaging cool, its still a Fresca. And Fresca is still, um, well its still Fresca, and nobody I know drinks Fresca.
The whole thing reminds me of those old Miller TV ads where people would argue (Tastes Great! Less Filling!), if they were done for Fresca:
…Fresca (Looks Cool! Tastes Crappy!)

No, you said nice stuff about the design. But you really ripped the product. Oh well, maybe he thinks it’s Crappy too.

Back in the old days when I drank soda, I loved Fresca. My soda-weaning process went like this: Regular soda to non-caffeinated soda, non-caffeinated soda to clear soda, clear soda to sugar-free soda (Fresca), then I quit soda altogether…..hmmm, maybe Fresca isn’t so good after all.
One time the sitcom “Wings” knocked on Fresca. I was super offended.

The better question is who’s going to market themselves on the side of the Fresca billboard can?
The lines are open for prime candidates even as we speak…
