Coming to you on-location from Des Moines, Iowa! This week we interview none other than AIGA Medalist and good-sport Joe Duffy. We tackle the future of advertising, Duffy’s experiences following his split with Fallon, and much more. Donovan even sneaked in a question about Duffy’s past battle-of-the-minds with Tibor Kalman (get a primer here, courtesy of Design Observer). Also pondered: Has Joe Duffy ever had a Hillary Duff? (answer: no.)

And if you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check our review of Duffy’s book Brand Apart from One Club Publishing. Special thanks must go out to AIGA Iowa for giving us the opportunity to speak with Joe, and to have a great dinner with them as well. (I had the bacon-wrapped pork—an actual menu item—to voodoo Drew Davies’ chances of beating me in the STEP Off, which was decided the next morning. It worked, but Donovan and Bennett won anyway.)

Also in Des Moines, the greatest DIY sign I’ve come in contact with.

Michael, Well, We don’t usually sensor our commenters, so we probably aren’t going to sensor the people the Design Cast team interviews either. I’m cool as long as we aren’t encouraging it. I don’t think Mr. Duffy was just going for a reaction either. There is obviously still some emotion behind that Tibor battle so many years later.

I’m not sure if iTunes cares, but I guess we will find out. I guess if they can say it on South Park hundreds of times, iTunes won’t care either.

I thought the interview was excellent and Mr. Duffy was very impressive. Good job guys.
