Sexy? yes.

Durable? probably.

Fast processor? certainly.

Useful for me? no.

-------------------------------

I was heartbroken to see that the Macbook has an integrated Intel graphics card. That basically make it useless to me since I need real GPU power for processing Camera RAW format... particularly in Aperture.

Shit... that sucks. I have to shell out for the Pro, I guess.

The "tuxedo" PowerBooks from 6 yeaers back were tough, sexy machines. They were very durable due to the rubberized+matte finished casing. Bring that back with some duo-core guts and it might just have to be ON baby!

Owning the black one will be a status symbol, like the U2 iPod neither me nor my friends could afford. Even on Apple's comparison sheet, I can't find any differences besides the color and standard hard drive size.

Simanek, Hadn't thought about it that way. I just bought a used G4 "TiBook" and it does have more than little scratches in the exterior. It seems that more often than not, there is a dent or two in the metal from carrying the power cord in the case. I would rather have scratches that I could possibly buff out, over dents in the metal.

I'm looking forward to seeing the blacktop in person. I didn't realize the black was $200 more. Strange.

Six months ago I bought a PowerBook G3 Lombard for my girlfriend. It is a nice looking piece of hardware and I think its dark shell is more durable than the aluminum bodies from what I've heard. Still looks great on its 7th year. I'll wager that the new mBook will be pretty durable. Maybe Apple DID listen to their customers.

I think it's sexy, but I can't figure out why it's $200 more than the white one. It only has 20GB extra on its hard drive. I just can't justify an additional $200 for black. Well, maybe I can. Regardless, these processors at those prices makes Apple look competitively priced for once. What's Tom think?

According to the specs Apple lists, the difference between the white MacBook and the black MacBook is 20GB in hard drive space. So why is the black one $200 more? A LaCie 250GB hard drive is only $169.95 from Apple's online store. Are they actually charging more because of the color?

From this old laptop's succesful stints in Sex and the City and Will Smith's Indepence Day, I bet people will be more than happy and eager to drop the extra $200 for the new black sheen.

Everyone else has black laptops. I'm sure it looks beautiful in person, but it just reminds me of the "other" laptops. I'll stick with the white (or aluminum), thank you very much.

The whole "glossy" thing reminds me that Apple never listens to its constumers. All we need are laptops that scratch up as easy as our iPods. I wonder why they didn't go in the direction of the iPod mini and make everything aluminum. At least find a way to make an iPod more scratch resistent.
