C&S C.C.C. L.L.C.

I saw the sign above on the side of a C & S Concrete Cutting Company, L.L.C. truck today and I had to share it with you guys. It isn’t even worth criticizing, so let’s take a tip from Nate’s contribution to the last Be Aware post and have some “fun with design.” Everybody pick out your favorite part of this sign and explain why you would hire this company. Me, I just like to refer to them as the C&S C.C.C. L.L.C. It’s catchy.

With a slogan like “No Worries” shouldn’t it be a cartoon Paul Hogan on there? Mick Dundee? The fact that he isn’t when he so clearly should be is so completely ironic I would hire them in a second.

That
is not
what I had in mind.

I love that he’s resting on the sawblade. That bird is gutsy.

I like the option of 2 phone numbers. I have an aversion to pressing numbers “2″ and “1″.

No, it’s gotta be the litlle “C&S” on the hat in the illustration. I think a collection of logos with this phenomenon could spawn it’s own site like the one mentioned in the “Taco Bell That Time Forgot” comments. (http://www.beadesigngroup.com/blog/archives/2006/04/the_taco_bell_that_time_forgot.html). The site mentioned was http://www.notfoolinganybody.com and featured old Pizza Huts and Long John Silvers as anything but.
Well, if not a site, perhaps BADG readers can send pics in and someone could create an entry showing the “best”. That could be fun.

Penguins guide me to good decisions in life. If I had to say why I’d hire this company it would be based strictly on their arbitrary penguin selection.

too bad it is a pelican and not a penguin, wible

The use of the default photoshop bevel settings on C&S tells me they’re confident enough in the kerning not to need fancy optical trickery.

In that case Bill, my favorite part is the penguin.

Just FYI that is no penguin, it’s definitely a Kiwi (bird for you yanks, not the fruit…)
It’s quite a common graphic to fall back on for cards of this ilk in New Zealand where it’s a national icon but for this one seems a bit out of place.
Anyhow that’s why I’d pick this guy to cut my driveway or whatever.

I would hire this company because their sign is so unpretentious. I bet a guy named Chuck or Henry owns the company and the fact he uses a cartoon shows he loves Warner Bros cartoons and is probably honest with a sense of humor. There is something to say about not always being “slick”.

I am actually guessing, with the use of the Kiwi and the “no worries”, he’s certainly a tradie named “Dave” from New Zulland.
I like the slightly choked up and apprehenesive look of the kiwi — almost as if he’s worried that blade may start spinning at any moment.
Very “hire us or the bird gets it”

Is it fun being so supercilious? How about you all go cut some concrete, then see what C&S have to say about your work. Who actually benefits from this discussion?
May 17th, 2006 at 11:23 am
Steve, Like I said in my post, we are just having some fun, so I would rather not get too serious. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t ever attempt to cut concrete or do core drilling. That would be insane and dangerous. It is also insane and dangerous for a cement company to think they can design their own logo/signage.

Honestly I would only consider these guys if they put a disclaimer at the bottom of this ad reassuring me that no pelicans, penguins, or kiwis were harmed in the making of this advertisement or in the sawing of their concrete.
