Be A Design Cast 15 : Gig Posters on the Side(Kick)

So this is what it’s like to have an enhanced podcast? This is good. All new rez’s and byte’s and things.

Right click to download Be A Design Cast 15 to your computer (9mb), or subscribe directly from iTunes.

This week, after a prolonged absence due to our enhanced awesomeness (see story below) we visit with Karen and Curt of Sidekick Design. Mostly we’re there to pimp Graphic Noise, a traveling gallery show of over 400 gig posters. It’s being hosted by AIGA Nebraska, and I know a whole lot of you don’t live anywhere near here, so we spend the better part of the show talking about silkscreening posters and all kind of other hands-on design like that. There’s a big part of me that loves, loves, loves silkscreening. It just seems more real to me than endless hours sitting at a computer screen making things “fake real.” If you know what I’m talking about, this is the show for you.

Good show!. Then enhanced feature, really did add a great deal to an already entertaining show.

This is an interesting topic to me, since I want to start doing some letterpress gig posters. I have a love/hate relationship with the whole screen-printed poster scene. Part of me thinks that it is based on incoherent imagery that are used to just win awards. The other half of me applauds the creativity and the screen printing medium. Of course, my dislike probably stems from jealousy more than anything else. The fact that I want to do some gig posters myself shows that the Love portion of me wins over the Hate.

On a side note, I stumbled onto a pretty nice Graphic Noise photo pool on Flickr. I’m looking forward to seeing the posters.
