Be A Design Cast 19 : Ragnarok

BADCAST2_BlogArt.jpg

The podcast to end all podcasts.

Four authors. One hour. One host?

The Be A Design Cast heads west, into the great unknown wilderness, for our enneadecashow. Nate takes Bennett Holzworth, Adrian Hanft, and Paul “the Professor” Berkbigler out into the darkness to hunt the wild beast that is the online world of graphic design. We cover the past, present, and purported future of this strange animal as we attempt to uncover both its secrets and, if possible, its purpose. This show is not to be missed—especially by Donovan, who was tragically lost to a wild deer this week.

No wild deer will keep me down for long though.

I was actually working on a project using Myriad while Bennett layed the smack down on it. That hurts.

Nate, That was a good time out in the back 40. Thanks for dragging the iMac out there. If the listeners had 10% of the fun that we had recording this session, it would be a huge success. I had forgotten the Fat Elvis/Gill Sans Extra Bold comparison. Hillarious! Suzanne was practically crying she was laughing so hard when she heard that section.

A few responses to the discussions.

Just in case anyone is interested, here is a link to the 166 comment long discussion of the UPS logo on Speak Up.

While we talked about the inception of BADG, I failed to mention an important person in the entire process. My wife has put in a ton of time behind the scenes of BADG. Suzanne has helped as a sounding board, editor for my writing and with many, many other things.

That 20” widescreen napkin is mine people. Stay away.

Donovan, You were missed on the podcast. Someone needs to cut me off when I start to ramble.

Sorry about the Myriad thing. I was mainly speaking to myself.

I’m a gigposters.com member, I’m listening, and I don’t hate you guys. I can’t speak for the rest of ‘em, though. And I went to college. Yes, AA got a press. And a huge-ass drying rack. I’ve seen both in person.

Oh wow. Okay, well, I stand corrected. Thanks for listening (I promise not to tell any of those other guys that you do). Also, the epic story of AA’s drying rack is one of my personal favorites.

Al aka El Negro Magnifico, I have noticed your voice in the mix since the gig poster discussion and appreciate your comments. Anyone who comments here, is part of the “Group”.

I’m sure the gig poster people have seen this video before, but since AA has been brought up, I thought I would share it with the anyone who has not seen their hillarious, screaming “how to” screen printing movie.

I asked Mike about the screaming, as in whether their neighbors were annoyed at all. It turns out that since my fiancĂ©e and I visited last year, their neighbors went out of business, so their screaming bothered no one. Mike also added that there’s usually some form of yelling/screaming going on outside their studio, so the beginning was no problem either. :)

For what it’s worth I enjoy your podcast guys. I like it when Steve is on it too. Adds that full-tilt boogie flair only he can infuse. ;-)

Keep up the good work!

Great job again—great to hear everyone!

This was another fine edition of the BADC. I mean this as a complement, it doesnt seem you guys a trying to impress anybody. Your just throwing out your comments. Thats what i enjoy about it. Other blogs are trying to impress somebody. I enjoy the conversations from normal guys who actually work in the field, rather than some guy who writes about it and doesnt do a stint of design work.

Hey Vonster, GCRaya, (everyone), thanks for listening and we’re glad you enjoy the show. We’re got a few more interviews left from this summer before we begin the show-proper again, September is primed to be Pentagram-Month here at the BADCast. We’ll see if we can actually get three shows out in four weeks.
