  • Here’s Some Fun With ASCII‚Ķ ACSII‚Ķ ACS2?

    scarlett.gif

After a riviting few days of Mooninite conversation, I thought it was high time to add a little levity (though I must thank our readers for catapulting that discussion into our Top Ten posts, cementing my fake F’bomb onto our homepage for the foreseeable future).

Head on over to Typorganism.com and click on the link for the ASCII-O-Matic! This little devil will take any 60 x 50 pixel photo you upload and turn it into those crazy little type drawings, which you can screen-capture like me or generate HTML code to use however you’d like.. And it does a pretty good job, just check out Scarlett Johanssen above. I know I am. (source photo, geez fellas, now included after the jump.)

Exactly which part of Scarlett Johanssen is that? I certainly can’t tell. I thought it was a flower of some kind.

I’m really glad that this is turning into a place to gawk at the opposite sex and say inappropriate remarks. This is really going to help the view of our profession. Keep it up guys.

    8. Nate Voss Says:

Thanks Bennett. If you have time, you should click on the link, because it really is a fun little site.

    9. Bobby Says:

Saying Scarlett Johanssen is hot is about as inappropriate as saying the Eiffel Tower is tall.

    10. Simanek Says:

Nothing wrong with a little fun. Graphic Design is supposed to be a ‘fun’ profession right? Well, thanks for the pic, Nate. I gotta go to work now, so the Marketing Department can override my opinion and force me to design crap according to their specific instructions.

I’ve always enjoyed ASCII art, but didn’t like the limitations of Typorganism.com.

Has anybody found a good stand-alone app for the Mac?

    12. Bennett Says:

I did click on the link. It is a fun site and worth visiting.

    13. Nishu Says:

Fun visiting site with a purpose. Cheers

The pattern created by the ascii is very much like a very rough halftone – in other words step back from your screen about 6-10 feet and you will see it. I think from a design perspective its neat to realize that often the whole is better than the sum of its parts. It i a neat way to look at the way random seeming shapes can create patterns.

Thanks for the link to this site, it is really fun. Though I would have to agree with most everyone else that I didn’t know that was Scarlett Johanson until I saw the original pic.
