Be A Design Cast 30 : Playing Well With Others

On our last show we spent most of our time talking about how to get a job in graphic design, this one we spend talking about what to do once you get there. And no, we don’t mean sitting at a desk and messin’ around in Illustrator or InDesign, we mean designing as a part of a team! It’s tricky, especially when you’re just starting out, so Donovan, Stevie “RDQlus” Gordon and I walk through a few sordid tales of the matter.

Also I’m not sure if any of you know… but there’s a new Creative Suite dropping like, any day now, so we dig into the new features of Photoshop CS3, which will make you very happy if you’re A.) on an Intel Mac, B.) have a widescreen monitor, or C.) fond of ‘the filters.’ Maybe all of the above, we’re not quite sure yet. Also, Listener Mail! See you next week —

If anyone is having trouble playing the audio file, make sure the file extension is “.m4a” and not “mpga” or “.m4a.mp3.” You may need to rename the file and it will play perfectly. This is just a temporary fix while we sort out this bug.

I like the echo. Sometimes, I imagined you guys talking about design in space… at one point you were in the hull of a ship.

On the real though, Steve is awesome. There were times that he was like P Diddy, just laying back on the track with some ‘uh huh, yeah’. Cracked me up.

So I suppose I should change my screen name to “Design n00b Tom.”

Has a nice flow.

Good cast guys. This one was fun.

Justin, that is perhaps the coolest thing I’ve heard about the echo! Like we’re just cruising around the intergalactic design ship on foot patrol with brews and vodka crans, politic’ing on design and such. Oooh watch your head as we go thru steerage. I like that! Uh huh, yeah, take that, take that… ha haaaa.

Thanks for the compliment!

March 27th, (this coming Tuesday), at 3:30pm EST, you can watch a “webcast of the official launch of Adobe® Creative Suite® 3” – so if Robert Goulet isn’t wreaking havoc on you then, check it out.

The Adobe link: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/launchevent/

and because it just doesn’t stop being funny, the Robert Goulet link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY0PFhHVC94

First off, long time listener first time poster. Now, you guys have got to tech it up a little more. I have been using Photoshop CS3 for a while on my macbook pro and let me tell you it is the bomb. No widescreen necessary it’s actually more efficient with screenestate than the old version is. The curves palette now overlays the levels making it actually useful… I could go on but no need. Get it and try it. Plus it loads about twice as fast on my intel.
