Holy late podcast, Batman! It’s a few days behind schedule, but we deliver this podcast chock-full of Drew Davies Goodness as we cover a veritable cornucopia of topics ranging from the Delta redesign (and the return of the Extreme Makeover), Design for Democracy, Pro-Bono work, and Superman Posters. Hey guys, thanks again for having me back on the show! I had a great time, and I hope the “viewers” enjoy it.

For anyone with a continued interest in the Design For Democracy project discussed on the podcast, the first draft of the best practices document is available for public review online through 22 May: www.ebp4.us/document-review/best-practices

(Unless you’re on the EAC Standards Review Board, you won’t be able to post comments.)

Lippincott did your beloved Sprint identity. I think.

Branding Continued

Other brandings that effect us in the every day, besides the mentioned BP, Apple and UPS.

  • The new at&t. It has been said that this was the biggest “unbranding” branding that has been done. The new logo is put into lowercase and the global is given a 3D look.
  • Sprint|Nextel. The ugly sprint logo meets the bold, plain nextel logo to make the an improved but not great new sprint logo. The pin drop drop is turned into a icon for the logo and the font goes from serif to sans serif and has less weight. However the logo retained the bland yellow and black colors of nextel. Rumor has it that since Goodby won the account earlier this year we could see some changes in the brand to improve likeability.
  • Bravo. Puts its logo with a new but similar font type into a thought/speech bubble.
  • Bahamas. I don’t know nor could I find what the logo for the ministry of tourism was before. I really don’t care though but this one is fantastic.
  • Citi. Buy Brand Apart and that will explain it for me.
  • Sports teams.
    • Tampa Bay Bucs. No more ugly orange.
    • Denver Broncos. I could be wrong but when they got there new uniforms Elway won that elusive Super Bowl
    • NE Patriots. Just look it up.
  • Dairy Queen. The latest redesign which I must say is TERRIBLE.
  • Southwest Airlines. Branding can go beyond a logo. For instance Southwest, which did not change its logo but updated it colors to improve its brand.

Please forgive me for not titling my post as Extreme Makeover continued.

I was just thinking as I lay sleepless in bed about a couple of local branding in Omaha that have happened in the last couple of years.

  • Creighton Univeristy. Got an updated logo that was designed by CU’s very own Davies, Joel Davies.
  • UNMC. I love the new logo they have. It has such nice ligatures now.
  • UNL. Well maybe not a rebranding but a makeover none-the-less. With every department with their own logo, the school narrowed it down to three
  • Missouri State. When Southwest Missouri State changed its name to Missouri State it changed its brand to the much more pleasing logo and bear icon of today.

YOYOYO! Great show guys! I host the CreativeXpert podcast, and I know it’s lots of work to put-out shows {hence my lack of showage in the recents}. Any-hoo, I just wanted to say that I really like the show! Maybe I can join the likes of you someday as a co-host. Just look for a guy on the side of the road with a cardboard sign. And the font? PAAAAAAAAPYRUSSSSSSSS! Laters!
