W+K 12 Blog

The students at the W+K 12 school just released their own blog. It is brand new, so there isn’t much content yet. Our good friend Curtis Pachunka (a former BADCast interviewee) is one of the selected 12 err I mean 13.

Here is to hoping that W+K 12 gives us a peak into their world and that they will upgrade to something a little more custom than a Blogger blog.

Go Curt! By the looks of those photos, they’ve been abducted into that matrix.

Wow, that wk12.com site is a great example of how NOT to build a site: one big, huge flash file (took over a minute on a fast connection) that contains a bunch of meaningless stuff. Great.

I wish Pachunka well on his new venture, but I confess that I don’t know what it is. Can BeA provide some additional info?

Simanek, I believe a few of my sendoff words to Curt at his going away party may have been “Have fun. Good luck building a site that makes no sense.”

Of course, that was last year’s crew. Who knows what’s in store for the future?

anyone who takes the wk12 site seriously is partly retarded. It’s supposed to be a joke/mystery/mindfuck or whatever. The first year was the coolest. but i thought the whole “take forever to load” thing was genius…i mean it stays on 6% forever, then all of a sudden loads. very funny and obviously deliberate.

Hate to keep chiming in here; but Mike, really, anyone who thinks that site is more than some inside jokes strewn together by amatuers made purposefully vague in a vain attempt at self-referentialism, if-you-understand-that-you-cannot-understand-it-and-by-extension-us-you-are-in-the-club piece of garbage, then you’re more than partly retarded. And I really hate the word “retarded.”

Somehow gathering the street-cred to do nothing of importance and have it revered; to in fact make something suck for only the sake of sucking, does not fill this hollow shell. It remains hollow now matter how badass it hopes itself to be. I’ve taught many a student, and I know that not all who apply to WK12 are students, but I can spot this self-admiring garbage from a mile away. It’s “look at what we can code, insert inside-joke here.” It’s a waste of a great opportunity. That’s what WK+12 is, an opportunity. Some people make the most of them, other people get caught up in their own bullshit and squander them.

I’ll leave it with a quote from Jim Lasser, Speak Up author and former WK12’er. “I was really impressed with the body of work we created. It had the most important ingredient when discussing America: a point of view. An important lesson as WK 12 gropes its way to understanding how to effectively communicate ideas.”

Groping, indeed.

I caught that it is supposed to be a ‘joke/mystery/mindfuck’. However, if I am supposed to learn and respect anything about what w+k12 is, a smart-ass inside joke is not the way to do it. Sarcasm is great while communicating with people that understand your actual perspective in advance. However, outside of that context it only contributes to miscommunication.

oh dear nathaniel - i never said it was MORE than an inside joke, thats exactly what it is. And there are so many talented people that get accepted into that school, they could of totally blown us away with the site if they wanted, but i think its funny that they were just like “fuck it! lets move on to our sweet jobs at sweet shops in some sweet city.” Its ok to laugh, everything doesn’t have to be one show worthy, it just has to entertain me…and well, i especially like the robot that shoots cupcakes. I’d be interested to see something that is “nate-approved”, so get accepted into the school and show us what you got kid. And for the record - i love what they’re doing with the Olympic logo. I wish i had a logo in my portfolio that caused epileptic seizures. jealous! I can’t wait for the 12-page response to this that you spent half the day on. xoxo - michael
