It Still Moves, by My Morning Jacket

In the current climate of retro-everything, it was only a matter of time until we had a retro seventies southern rock band. Maybe that gives you a hint at what to expect from My Morning Jacket, but like most comparisons to the “original sound” it does an injustice to the group. The musicianship, songwriting, and creativity of MMJ makes them an outstanding band. It Still Moves easily fills 72 minutes with emotionally captivating music. Jim James reverb soaked vocals were partly the result of an unorthodox recording setup. MMJ recorded It Still Moves in an empty grain silo. A comparison I haven’t heard that I think is relevant is to one of my favorite bands, The Black Keys. The music of these two bands both show passionate execution and stunning songwriting prowess. The result has been some of the most complex and rewarding music on the market. Extra props go to My Morning Jacket for releasing the track "My Morning Jacket" under a Creative Commons License. It is great to see of examples of artists building bridges between their fans instead of burning them.
